Updated: Overworked Vincent Browne hospitalised with pneumonia

TV3 star Vincent Browne has been hospitalised due to pneumonia – and won’t be on screen for three months.

The Tonight With Vincent Browne presenter was reportedly taken to St Vincent’s Private Hospital over the weekend.

Tonight, Vincent said: “[I] got pneumonia last month continued working, unfortunately ended up in hospital. Will be back on air 8th Sept.”

Now, a TV3 spokeswoman has confirmed that the 69-year-old will be off until September 8. She added: “He is on medical leave and is taking his summer break”.

He has been replaced on the late night show by RTE sports presenter Tom McGurk at the last minute.

Sources told the Herald that Vincent started feeling “under the weather” after dealing with the recent Election coverage.

“Everyone was flat out with all the elections coverage and his situation stemmed from there,” a source said.

“He decided to power through it and not take a few days off sick, so it got worse and now he’s been forced to take a proper break in a hospital bed because he’s so worn out and completed drained.

“He’s not getting any younger and he has to look after himself.”

The TV3 presenter has been left stressed after two producers of the show quit in May – just months after joining the show.
