Nicky Byrne backed by 'pleased' TV bosses – despite 200,000 viewers tuning out from Lotto show

The National Lottery has insisted there are no plans to sack Nicky Byrne – as his new gameshow flounders.

Almost 200,000 viewers have deserted the Million Euro Challenge after the first episode, and it fell out of the top 20 weekly programmes.

But Lotto bosses have said it is “extremely pleased” with how the Winning Streak replacement is fearing – and with its Westlife star host.

A spokeswoman said: “The National Lottery is extremely pleased with the viewing figures for the Million Euro Challenge to date.

“Over 480,000 viewers watched the first episode, followed by a very credible 290,000 plus for episode two. Nicky Byrne is an extremely popular gameshow host.”

They added: “Naturally it will take time for viewers to adjust to the new format.”
