The 2FM presenter beat off the likes of Brian Ormond and Neil Delamere to host the new entertainment show.

The new show is set to start in the new year  with Sinead and Marty finishing up on Winning Streak this Christmas.

According to the Star Nicky was screen-tested for the new gig alongside other RTE stars.

“New licence holders want Byrne. His pop music success, coupled with his vast TV and radio experience, makes him the perfect fit for its new lotto show,” an insider said.

“The rest of the Westlife boys have a great relationship with the National Lottery in the UK and regularly appear on its Saturday night draw show.”

A TV source added that the National Lottery want  a slightly more “serious” show and want just one presenter.

“They want the show to have one presenter and are trying to make it a little more serious.

“As far as we know, there will be no more studio audience with the families of the contestants waving silly signs.”
