Netflix to release documentary on 2015 murder of Irish man Jason Corbett

Netflix is set to release a documentary on the 2015 murder of Irish man Jason Corbett in the United States.

Nearly ten years ago, in 2015, the 39-year-old was found dead in his home in Lexington, North Carolina.

His wife Molly Martens Corbett and her father Tom Martens were convicted of his murder in 2017.

However, they appealed the conviction, which was later rejected, and the pair were released on bail awaiting a retrial.

However, the duo later agreed to a plea deal, with the Davidson County’s District Attorney accepting a plea of guilty to voluntary manslaughter, in return for dropping the murder charges.

Due to the plea deal, Molly and Tom were sentenced to a minimum of four years and three months in 2023, including time served.

As a result of the time they had already served, they were released from prison in June 2024.

The programme titled ‘A Deadly American Marriage’ will feature interviews with Jason’s children Jack and Sarah, as well as interviews with the perpetrators Tom Martens and Molly Martens Corbett.

Netflix has described the documentary as “it sheds a bright light on the many questions that have lingered since the shocking events of that night.”

Jenny Popplewell (What Jennifer Did, American Murder: The Family Next Door) and Jessica Burgess (Rich & Shameless, American Monster) are the producers and directors of the documentary.
