Mark Cagney back on the mend after splashing €50,000 on spine operation

Ireland AM presenter Mark Cagney has revealed he’s back on the mend – after spending “fifty grand” on a back operation.

The TV3 star has been forced to take three months off after the operation on his spine and joked the cost was tough to deal with as he “didn’t get paid RTE money”.

But Mark, 57, will have to recover at home following the double lumbar fusion surgery.

“The back is done and the doctors are very happy. So far so good,” he told the Irish Sun.

“I just want to thank my surgeon and all the doctors and nurses and everyone who looked after me. It was nowhere near as bad as I was expecting which was great.”

The Cork native was last year rushed to hospital after a dramatic heart scare live on air.

He suffered chest pains an hour into an edition of the show and was pulled off the airwaves and taken to Tallaght Hospital – but later insisted he didn’t have a heart attack as had been feared.
