Lucy Kennedy said it was 'the best decision ever' to quit RTE – as they didn't care about her

Lucy Kenny has said it was “the best decision” she “ever made” to quit RTE and move to TV3.

The Late Lunch Live star said she decided to quit the State station after they repeatedly refused to give her proper programmes.

She said: “I was coming up with programme ideas for RTE for me to present and they were throwing ideas at me.

“Nothing I threw at them they wanted to commission, nothing they offered me I wanted to present.”

She added: “I was offered quite a few programmes with RTE before I moved, but none of them ticked all of the boxes I needed to tick with the family.”

And Lucy revealed that Montrose could have kept her – if they’d listened to her dream to buy the rights to Blind Date like TV3 have.

She said: “I have literally talked and dreamed of doing Blind Date for 10 years, all of my presenting career.

“Even at RTE, I used to beg them to do Blind Date. I knew there was an appetite for it, that it’s one of those shows that everyone would love to see again.”

Now Lucy told TV Now she is working out how to differentiate herself from original UK host Cilla Black.

She said: “Cilla used to curtsey, so I’ll have to find something of my own. I’m so honoured to be given such a popu- lar format.”
