Lucie Donlan’s sister has asked Love Island fans to be more “compassionate”, after the surfer’s antics caused controversy during Friday night’s episode.

In the episode, Lucie finally revealed her true feelings for Tommy Fury – despite the fact that he’s coupled up with Molly-Mae Hague.

As expected, her actions raised a lot of eyebrows, and people had plenty to say about her on social media.

Amid the backlash, Lucie’s sister Emily Airton, who is also a surfer, took to Instagram to slam those who have targeted Lucie.

She wrote: “To hate is one of the weakest things you can do. Whether it is to a stranger, friend or yourself, it is disservice to who you are.”

“Learn to let go of your insecurities, judgements and begin to appreciate others for who they are…”

“Please be better than this internet culture of hate. Be kind, be compassionate. Be human. love you ! @lucierosedonlan,” she added.

Love Island continues on Sunday at 9pm on Virgin Media Two.
