Love/Hate's Paulie reveals he rehearsed his scenes with his MUM

Most of his scenes have been violent and threatening, but actor Johnny Ward rehearsed his Love/Hate scenes with his parents.

The star who plays Paulie in the award winning RTE drama has revealed he practiced scenes with his mum and dad when he was auditioning for the role.

“They gave me three scenes, all so completely different, so contrasting, they wanted to see if I could adapt to different situations,” he explained.

“I locked myself away for three days and went over and over the lines with my mother and my father.

Tough role: Johnny said he auditioned six times

“My mother has the thickest cockney accent she was doing Nidge in that accent, it was so weird to hear Nidge that way,” he admitted.

Meanwhile Johnny revealed he beat off all his pals to win the role of Paulie.

The actor admitted a lot of his close friends went for the part but didn’t get it.

“I did six auditions in total and I didn’t hear for ten days. I was just told I got down to the last two or three,” he told the Colm Hayes Show on 2FM.

“A lot of my friends had auditioned for his character already. Then my agent rang saying you got the role of Paulie you are being six scripts,” he said.
