Love/Hate's Mary Murray: 'Having sex with Nidge ISN'T glamorous – it's just too hilarious'

Love/Hate actress Mary Murray has revealed that shooting sex scenes with Tom Vaughan Lawlor can be extremely comical.

The RTE star – who plays Nidge’s mistress and brothel owner Janet – often has to shoot steamy scenes with the gang boss.

But Mary said: “They are funny, but they’re not funny to Janet. It’s tragic to her – There’s only so much a person can take.

And Mary – who is also known for her role in the Magdalene Sisters – revealed that shooting the scenes isn’t all that glamorous.

“You’re rushed in after they film other scenes and you’re in a hurry and they’re going, ‘Do you wear this top or do you take it off?’ and ‘How much time have we got?’,

“And ‘Shut those curtains and get those extras away from the door’ and and ‘Come on, we’ve two minutes!'”

However although Janet has a hard life, Mary told the Ray D’Arcy Show that it could be a lot worse.

“She’s a tryer, I think she just makes the best of the circumstances she’s giver,” she said.

“She could have had a harder life, she could be one of those poor unfortunate prostitutes. At least she’s gone beyond that.”

She also applauds her co-star Tom Vaughan-Lawlor for his “brilliant” acting and character transformation.

“He’s just brilliant at switching it on. He’s just so good. Now that said, he gives himself a few seconds to get in the zone,” she said.

“He just gives himself a few seconds on set. He’s not in the middle of a big laugh before he does something very serious. It’s just amazing to watch his transformation because he’s just so good.”
