James Nesbitt to play distraught dad in US version of Amber

Actor James Nesbitt has signed on to play a parent whose five-year-old son goes missing.

The Hobbit star has the main role in the show, which has been called an American version of Amber.

He will be seen psychologically tortured in the eight- part thriller – The Missing – which will air on US cable channel, Starz.

His son, Oliver Hughes, suddenly disappeared while on holiday in France in 2006.

And the show – which also features actress Frances O’Connor – tries to go inside his mind as he seeks to find his son as those responsible.

It is expected that The Missing, which is helmed by Ripper Street director Tom Shankland, will be seen by more than a million people on the channel.

It comes after Amber was aired in the UK on BBC Four.
