ITV have released a statement after Love Island host Caroline Flack stepped down from her role.
It comes as the 40-year-old was charged with assault by beating in the early hours of December 12th.
The star took to Instagram this morning to announce she was leaving the show.
“Love Island has been my world for the last five years, it’s the best show on telly,” she began.
“In order to not detract attention from the upcoming series I feel the best thing I can do is to stand down for series six. I want to wish the incredible team working on the show a fantastic series in Cape Town.”
ITV have responded to the resignation, leaving the door open for Caroline to return to future series of the show.
In a statement, an ITV spokesperson said: “ITV has a long-standing relationship with Caroline and we understand and accept her decision. We will remain in contact with her over the coming months about future series of Love Island.”
Metropolitan Police have reported that a man was also involved in the incident.
It is alleged that the man in question is her 27-year-old boyfriend Lewis Burton.
Caroline is set to appear in court on Monday, December 23rd.
