Home and Away legend Ray Meagher rushed to hospital for emergency heart surgery

We hope he's ok!

Channel 7

Home and Away star Ray Meagher has been rushed to hospital for emergency heart surgery.

The 74-year-old, who has played Alf Stewart in the popular Aussie soap since 1988, underwent an emergency triple heart bypass – after doctors discovered three serious blockages in his arteries.

According to the Melbourne Herald Sun, Ray is now recovering at home, and feels “very, very lucky” to have been treated.

Last year, Ray was forced to deny reports that he has quit Home and Away, but said he would be scaling back his work load.

At the time, he said: “From now on, on a new contract, I’ll probably work 35-36 weeks of the year. So it’s just taking a tiny bit more time out, but I ain’t going nowhere.”

The news comes after Home and Away bosses denied claims that the show was being axed recently.
