Head of Irish Prison Service is glad new Love/Hate season shows jail life

Irish Prison Service director general Michael Donnellan said he is glad RTE drama Love/Hate filmed their new season in Dublin’s Wheatfield prison.

Cameras and crew were given access to the Dublin facility in Clondalkin to film scenes for series 5.

“I think we have to promote anything that gives an insight. We have to let more journalists
into prisons,” he said.

“We have to let more film crews into prisons, we have to let more documentaries.”

New season: Nidge is on the run in the new series

“We have to break down barriers and give people an understanding of what prison is,” he told the Sunday Business Post.

Although the setting is authentic, Mr Donnellan confirmed no real prison staff are in the scenes, despite last year having real-life Garda Kieran O’Reilly on the show.
