Harry Potter HBO series set to start filming in summer 2025

The Harry Potter HBO series is set to start filming in the summer of 2025.

In order to introduce the wizarding adventures to new viewers, the series will have a completely new cast while remaining faithful to the source novels.

The series will be filmed at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden, where blockbuster Barbie was largely filmed.

On Thursday, Max, Warner Bros.’s streaming service, posted to X: “Wands at the ready.”

“The upcoming HBO Original Series, #HarryPotter, will be filming at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden with production beginning in Summer 2025 and coming to Max.”

The original films, which starred Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, were produced by Warner Bros.

In 2023, Max declared that the new ten-year series would be “a faithful adaptation of the iconic books” and was based on J.K. Rowling’s works.

“The series will feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail, much loved characters and dramatic locations that Harry Potter fans have loved for over 25 years,” the streamer said at the time.

“Each season will be authentic to the original books and bring Harry Potter and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world, while the original, classic and beloved films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch globally.”

According to HBO, 32,000 kids have tried out for the main parts since a casting call was publicised in September, and the team is analysing up to 1,000 tapes per day.

According to the casting call, candidates had to be between the ages of nine and eleven and citizens of the UK or Ireland in April 2025.

Earlier this year, it was reported that Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod, who collaborated on the critically acclaimed drama Succession, would serve as executive producers of the series.
