From Love Hate’s Janet to James Joyce – Mary Murray plays Molly Bloom for charity

Love/Hate’s Mary Murray has been announced to perform as Molly Bloom in charity Bloomsday celebrations.

Taking part in the Annual Bloomsday Brennans Bike Rally in aid of The Irish Youth Foundation, Mary recently returned home from touring in China and admitted she couldn’t wait to take on the legendary role.

“I’m really looking forward to taking on the role of Molly Bloom at the IYF lunch,” she said.

“I imagine the audience will be a little different than in China! It’s a great charity and I’m delighted to be involved”.

The IFTA nominee opened up about her time touring the Eastern country admitting she “wasn’t always a Joyce fan” but became one after her time aboard – seeing the Chinese’ reaction to the literary legend’s work.

“‘It was a real eye opener, performing in front of some of China’s literary greats. Some of these people have read Ulysses 6 times or more, can you imagine?” she said.

“I struggled with it the first time, and had to really persevere after page 30! It’s really impressive to see Joyce being dearly appreciated in all corners of the world”.

The 22nd annual Bloomsday Bike Rally for the Irish Youth Foundation takes place this Friday 12th June in The Intercontinental Hotel, Dublin 4.
