Father Ted star Ardal O'Hanlon lands role in new drama about gay couple

He is famous playing for Father Dougal in Irish comedy series Father Ted, and now Ardal O’Hanlon is set for a completely different role.

The comedian will now take on a more serious role new Channel 4 series Cucumber.

The new eight-party drama follows a character called Henry, who lives with his boyfriend Lance.

After a disastrous date night – randomly including a threesome and a police chase, Henry is forced to begin a new life.

Ardal’s role is not yet know, but other actors cast include Freddie Fox, Vincent Franklin and James Murray.

The series is written by Russell T Davies, the man behind Doctor Who and Queer As Folk, the show that gave Love/Hate star Aidan Gillen his big break.

According to Channel 4, “Cucumber will explore the passions and pitfalls of 21st century gay life for Henry, Lance and co.”

Ardal has already started filming the series in the UK.
