EXCLUSIVE! Real life Garda stories to appear in TV3 soap Red Rock

TV3’s new soap Red Rock could feature real-life Garda stories.

Richard Flood, who plays the lead Gard in the new show revealed some real life Gardai are on set of the TV3 series.

Speaking exclusively to Goss.ie, the Dublin actor admitted producers hired a retired garda on set to help.

“He had a few war stories alright for us which I’m not sure might start making it into the show, I know he’s been very involved.”

“We had a recently retired guard come in and did a lot of work with us, just about basic procedure, the culture of the guards, to try sort of understand the mentality.”

“It was really really helpful actually, just to talk to somebody who was in the guards for 30 or 40 years, who loved being a Gard and still loves the Gards.

“Who’s a real Gard through and through, he was a really great detective” said of having a real life Garda on set,” he said.

New to TV3: Richard plays high flying Superintendent James McKay|TV3

The soap star went on to describe his character Superintendent James McKay as “a young boss” and a “high flyer in the gardai.”

Richard is keeping tight lipped about his upcoming story lines.

However the actor did divulge that his character does “find himself in difficult positions and positions of conflict.”

Speaking to Goss.ie Richard explained what drew him to the new TV3 project the talented actor said he had “always been quite interested in the police” and “the mentality of the Gards.”

“I’ve always been fascinated by those people that do that job and really commit to it so I was already kind of interested” the Red Rock star added.

Red Rock airs on TV3 every Wednesday and Thursday at 8.30pm
