EXCLUSIVE: Bressie slams complaint about The Voice of Ireland being 'too sexy' for TV

Bressie has defended The Voice of Ireland after the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland said the show was too sexual.

The former frontman of The Blizzards said he was disappointed the complaint about a dance routine being too sexy was upheld by the BAI after receiving complaints.

“Here’s the point I want to make. A mother will make a complaint about that, but it’s fine to watch Miley Cyrus?,” Bressie told Goss.ie.

The real problem: Bressie thinks people should complain about Miley instead

“Children are going to Miley Cyrus concerts where she’s shagging the mic, I feel Ireland is this big elastic band that’s constantly waiting to be offended all the time.

“If you don’t like that then don’t let your kids watch music videos, don’t let them watch Rihanna. Rihanna walks around naked 24/7.”

Bressie said the real problem was that the show is Irish, and that’s why they get complaints.

The BAI agreed that the dance routine for his act Danica Holland “included clear sexual overtones” themes of “sexual submission, both emotional and physical”.

Attacked: BAI agree that the show was too sexual

But Bressie said people just want to attack Irish shows.

“The problem is because the show is Irish. Straight away people feel they have the right to attack,” he insisted.

“That woman honestly needs to reevaluate how she looks at things. I won’t beat about the bush on this, that’s the truth.

“We are addicted to being offended, we have to be offended by something. That upset Danica as well, and that put her off.

“What’s the priority here? We’re all right with American stars because they’re American and they’re superstars.”

Too sexy: Danica’s dance was said to be too sexual

“You can’t say it’s on at half six on a Sunday, you can watch a music video 24/7 so the timing doesn’t matter.”

It’s the latest controversy to hit The Voice of Ireland, which is known for being more racy than other RTE shows.

“I got in trouble for saying the word bulls**t on TV. I didn’t mean to say it but it’s hardly the most offensive thing I’ve ever said,” Bressie admitted.

“With The Voice we do try to be a little bit mouthy, a little bit edgy. So this might happen. It’s part of the process.”
