Everyone is saying the same thing about Netflix’s new series Adolescence

Everyone has been saying the same thing about Netflix’s newest series Adolescence, a psychological drama about a 13-year-old accused of murder.

Although the series was only released on the streaming service yesterday, positive reviews have already been flooding in.

Adolescence stars Owen Cooper as 13-year-old Jamie, Stephen Graham as his father, and Erin Doherty as clinical psychologist Briony Ariston.

Executive producer of the mini-series Stephen Graham revealed that the idea for the show came to him from looking at the epidemic of knife crime across the UK.

“I read an article about a young boy stabbing a young girl,” he explained to the The Independent.

“And then maybe a couple of months later, on the news there was another young boy who’d stabbed a young girl, and if I’m really honest with you, they hurt my heart,” he continued.

Adolescence’s storyline explores many complex issues, and also urges parents to be “mindful” of certain influences affecting their children.

While earning a perfect 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Adolescence is receiving immense praise online.

On person wrote on X: “Just watching Adolescence on Netflix. I know it’s been said a million times but Stephen Graham is an absolutely spectacular actor…”

While another said: “each and every person in ‘adolescence‘ on netflix is acting their a** off.”

Fans are commending the issues that the show addresses, and parents are recognising the important messages being portrayed throughout the story.

Watching #adolescencenetflix with my 13 year old, I advise parents of teenage boys to do the same,” wrote a mother on X.

While someone else wrote: “Are you a teacher? A parent of boys? Adolescence on Netflix the most important show you’ll see this year! It examines how we raise boys and what we teach them about masculinity—asking why they’re still expected to navigate a tough, toxic world alone.”
