Elton John ‘burst into tears’ after watching Rocketman biopic for the first time

The singer attended the world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival

Sir Elton John reportedly burst into tears last night, after watching Rocketman for the first time as it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival.

The 72-year-old, who attended the premiere with his husband David Furnish, got emotional while watching the biopic – which tells his incredible life story.

According to The Sun, the highly anticipated movie received a standing ovation, and the film’s director Dexter Fletcher told the audience: “We’re all blown away by your response.”

Rocketman has been described as an epic musical fantasy, about the incredible human story of Elton John’s breakthrough years.

The film follows the fantastical journey of transformation – from shy piano prodigy Reginald Dwight, into international superstar Elton John.

Taron Egerton stars as Elton, alongside Jamie Bell, who plays Elton’s longtime lyricist and writing partner Bernie Taupin.

Meanwhile, Richard Madden plays Elton’s first manager John Reid, and Bryce Dallas Howard stars as Elton’s mother Sheila Farebrother.

Rocketman hits Irish cinemas on May 22.
