Eamonn Holmes got emotional as he paid tribute to his wife Ruth Langsford’s late sister on This Morning today.
The presenter was joined by Rylan Clark-Neal, who stepped in to cover for Ruth this morning, following the death of her beloved sister Julia Johnson.
After the show’s opening credits were shown, Eamonn told viewers: “Before we get underway let me explain why it is Rylan and myself today. You may be aware of the terrible bereavement Ruth had yesterday.”
Eamonn then read out the Instagram message Ruth had shared yesterday morning, in which she sadly confirmed her sister’s passing.

Eamonn should be at home with Ruth. The very sad and sudden loss of Julia has obviously deeply affected him, too. He needs to take time out. #ThisMorning

Breaking viewers hearts, Eamonn got choked up as he tried to read his wife’s post, before Rylan stepped in to read out the remainder of Ruth’s message.
Eamonn then thanked Rylan for being there for them, and said: “Nobody understands more than Rylan, he has been a great comfort to Ruth and a great help.”
Rylan replied: “I know Ruth is watching and we are sending all our love, and love to you, Eamonn. Ruth’s going to need time and so will you, I couldn’t not be here.”
Eamonn added: “Rylan was the first person I phoned when I heard this news, we’ve got each other.”
My lovely Sis Julia has sadly died after a very long illness. My heart is completely broken. She was the kindest and most gentle soul and I will miss her forever. As I am sure you will appreciate I need to take time to grieve with my family. Thank you for your understanding. pic.twitter.com/o6jMtIqMg4
