Comedian Jason Byrne blasts RTE saying they 'can't write comedy'

He has always aired his shows on RTE, but now comedian Jason Byrne has claimed that the broadcaster can’t write good comedy.

Jason, who has changed his tune since landing a show with TV3, has hit out at RTE writers.

“Nobody [in RTE] can write comedy. They can’t produce anything original. I’m sorry to have to say that.”

“I don’t know who in RTE writes comedy. Who writes comedy in RTE? In the BBC there are writers in comedy, there are none in RTE,”

“So they can’t [write] because there is nobody in there,” Jason told the Irish Mirror.

Jason has starred on several RTE shows, including Anonymous and The Bryne Ultimatum.

Goss.ie previously revealed TV3 were in talks with top Irish comedians, and Jason has revealed he has joined TV3 to host a new chat show.

“It’ll be basically a chat show with photographs. I did stand up in Edinburgh with pictures of me as a kid, and I didn’t even really have to say anything, I just showed people and they went ‘Woah’.

“So I said why don’t we bring in celebs with their pictures, and let’s bring in the audience members, we’ll have a laugh with them.

“There’s also going to be me doing stand-up and sketches,” he explained.

“The last time I did a studio show with RTE was years ago. I’m only starting with TV3. At the moment they’re all young and happy,” he said.
