Bressie: NO TV channels will take my mental health show as it's 'not Sex And The City'

Bressie has told how he wants to front documentaries on mental health – but no TV channels will take them.

The Voice star – who has been open about his own depression – said TV bosses are worried viewers will switch off and aren’t interested in commissioning them.

But the former Blizzards frontman feels he could “bring humour” to the shows so they don’t turn the channel.

He said: “I’ve explored the idea of developing documentaries on mental health, but the media has a kind of allergy towards it because it’s ‘too heavy’.

“They think viewers will immediately hit the remote and watch Sex And The City instead. Yes, it’s a serious subject, but you can bring positivity to mental health.

“You can bring humour to it – you can talk about it in lots of different ways.”

And Bressie added that the “most important” day of his life was when he could finally admit to his parents he suffered with depression.

“The most important day of my life was when I was able to talk to my parents about my depression,” he told Hot Press.

“It was like, ‘Jeez, now than my family and friends know, I can explore ways to dealing with it’.

“I’m still dealing with it. It’s part of my daily life and always will be but by talking about it, not feeling stigmatised and getting the right help, you can get to a good place.”
