Brendan O'Connor admits he's 'not mad about celebrities' despite interviewing them on his talk show

The Saturday Night Show returns to screens this Saturday along with host Brendan O’Connor.

And while we are used to seeing celebrity guests on his sofa, the RTE star has admitted he’s not a fan of having stars on the show.

“I’m not mad about celebrities myself. I don’t think celebrities have much to say anymore. We all know it all anyway,” he said.

“The mystique is gone. I’m most looking forward to the different people that arise each week with their stories, because that is what is interesting.”

Brendan joked that his chat show gets the leftover guests from The Late Late Show.

“Obviously I’m excited to meet whoever didn’t get on to the Late Late,” he joked.

Meanwhile Brendan said he believes people love watching live TV, so they can point out the show’s faults.

“I think in many ways, watching chat shows in Ireland there’s a touch of blood sport about it for people,” he told TV Now magazine.

“They like to see the little cock-ups happen and when things go wrong, or when people say things they shouldn’t people enjoy it.”

“These things happen, and you’re denying people that if you’re not live.”

But the host insisted he doesn’t let the backlash and what people might say on social media interfere with the show.

“I don’t think about that ideally. I just try to focus on the conversation I’m having with the person and listening to them.”
