Billo lives on! O'Herlihy family give Apres Match the go ahead

The family of the late and great Bill O’Herlihy have given Apres Match permission to continue using the ‘Billo’ character in their sketches.

The broadcaster passed away in May at the age of 76.

Gary Cooke, Risteard Cooper and Barry Murphy returned to the popular sketch show last week.

According to The Sun, the Apres Match team contacted the O’Herlihy family to get permission before reprising the ‘Billo’ character.

A source told the paper that the team were very fond of Bill – and didn’t want to offend his family in any way.

“The family were more than happy for it to continue and they really appreciated being contacted and asked.

“The lads are delighted because Bill was such an integral part of Irish sporting life and they’re thrilled he will still be a big part of the series”, they said.
