Hughie Maughan applied to appear on Gogglebox Ireland, but was told that he was “too famous” to be on the show.
The Big Brother star sent in an application for the TV show just hours after RTÉ confirmed him as a contestant on RTÉ’s Dancing With The Stars.
A Googlebox Ireland spokesman told the Irish Sun, “We were surprised to hear from Hughie but we had to tell him no because he’s too famous as a red carpet star, our viewers are more red lemonade.
“But Hughie will feature on Gogglebox Ireland because we’ll be glued to Dancing With The Stars.”

Hughie, who shed light on the Irish travelling community while on Channel 5’s Big Brother, contacted TV3 last Friday asking if he could appear on Gogglebox Ireland with his fiancé, Ryan Ruckledge.
A spokesman said, “We did promise him and Ryan if we do a celebrity version of Gogglebox Ireland, they will be top of our list.”
Hughie also revealed in his application that he and Ryan, who he met on Big Brother, are moving in together near the Ballymun halting site where his family live.
“Ryan wants to be at Hughie’s side every night when he’s dancing,” the source added.
Dancing With the Stars premieres on RTÉ One on Sunday, January 8.
