BBC bosses axe Our Girl after four seasons – following Michelle Keegan’s departure

The show won't return for another season

Our Girl has been axed after four seasons, following the departure of Michelle Keegan as the show’s lead character Georgie Lane.

The actress announced her plans to leave the show back in January, before her final season aired on BBC One.

Our Girl creator Tony Grounds told Radio Times: “With the finale of series four showing Georgie ready to move on with her life, it feels like the right time for us to do the same.”

Although they’re closing the door on Our Girl for now, Tony teased the series could return in the future.

“Michelle and I are keen to continue our working relationship and, who knows, maybe we’ll catch up with Georgie in the future,” he said. “I wanted to say a big thank you to the fans of the show, it’s been a joy to write.”

Piers Wenger, the controller of BBC Drama, added: “We are very proud of Our Girl and would like to thank Tony Grounds, Michelle Keegan and the fantastic cast and crew for all their hard work on the show.”

When her final episode aired earlier this year, Michelle shared a video documenting her journey on the hit BBC series.

She wrote: “Stand down soldier… your mission is done ✅ I wanted to share a little video of the journey that I’ve been on for the past 4 years.”

“Thank you to all the cast, the crew and production team for the memories that will stay with me forever.”

She added: “Finally, thank you to the fans of the show for investing your time in to this amazing project, watching and staying with us from start to finish. I am so very grateful ❤️ xxx.”
