Baz Ashmawy's mum DOESN'T want to be a celeb now – after her TV taste of fame

TV star Baz Ashmawy has insisted his mum doesn’t want to be a fully-blown celebrity after starring on 50 Ways To Kill Your Mammy.

The 71-year-old “Irish Mammy” Nancy has no interest in celebrity status according to her son and Sky 1 co-star Baz.

He told Goss.ie: “My mom has as much interest now in being a celebrity you know as my missus does – there’s just none.

“So for her it’s brilliant she’s getting great recognition from people they’ve been really sweet to her and a lot of love you know.

Mom’s the word: Baz and mother Nancy prove a hit on Sky 1’s 50 Ways To Kill Your Mammy

“It works so well because Nancy is so herself and just so normal and amazing at the same time and she has no interest in celebrity or any of that.

“That’s why it works so well. If you have kids that want to be on telly you know I’m not sure if that’s the way I’d steer someone.”

The Sky 1 series 50 Ways to kill your Mammy has proved popular amongst viewers – with Baz revealing its boosted the station’s ratings.

Speaking as he launched The Eaties, he added: “It’s doing very well. I think it’s quadrupling their stat average. So it’s going very well. I couldn’t ask for more.”

But when asked about a second installment Baz revealed they “haven’t signed anything for a second series” yet.

No Fear: The show feature Baz taking on a number of adrenaline rushing challenges

Meanwhile, Baz has blasted Ricky Gervais for stealing his ideas for Idiot Abroad.

Asked if he got the idea for 50 Ways from the Office star, he said: “I don’t buy into that because I was doing comedy travel 10 years ago in Ireland. They stole my bloody idea.

“No but it’s a travel genre and it’s a genre that’s exhausted a bit. There’s a lot of soul in the show that we’re making. I mean it’s not just an elderly person doing crazy stuff. It’s about family and about a relationship.”

He was speaking as he helped Justeat.ie launch The Eaties – the first ever online takeaway awards in Ireland.
