Baz Ashmawy found being unemployed like 'chasing a woman you've broken up with'

TV star Baz Ashmawy has admitted being unemployed was like “chasing a woman you’ve broken up with”.

The 50 Ways presenter was left emotionally hit after being let go from RTE and left without work for over 15 months.

And opening up on the tough times, Baz explained it was “a hard thing… there was no work.”

He added: “Sometimes when you fall out of flavour a bit, the people you work with…it’s like chasing a woman you’ve broken up with, they don’t pick-up the phone and they say we’ll do coffee next week.

“Next week comes and they say they’re busy this week, how about next month and eventually you come to the realisation that they don’t want coffee with me.”

And the former 2FM presenter said that during this tough time he went to his mum’s house back to his old bedroom to pick up the pieces.

“I sat in my room and wrote everyday, I wrote ideas and formats,” he told Ryan Tubridy.

Focusing on understanding what “type of presenting” he wanted to do and “what he found funny”, the father of six came up with 50 Ways to Kill Your Mammy.

“I was chatting with my mum in the kitchen one day about the skydive and I remember the guy who runs Sky. I just wanted to make telly for this guy,” he said.

“He got me excited about telly at a time I was swaying and everything came together.”
