Nicole Scherzinger had to struggle to remain professional on The X Factor on Saturday and it was all because of one Irish contestant.
Niall Sexton took to the stage for the controversial Six-Chair Challenge and performed his mentor’s own song, Run, which she wrote about her split from Lewis Hamilton.
And he clearly had not run his song choice by Nicole, who reacted with surprise by exclaiming: “Oh – I didn’t realise many people knew that one.”
During Niall’s emotional performance, Nicole mouthed the lyrics, including: “Don’t let him lead you to the dark / Don’t tell him all your secrets / He’ll leave you with a broken heart.”
Simon Cowell addressed the situation head-on, by saying: “Why does that make me think of Lewis Hamilton?”, while Louis Walsh gave Niall some glowing feedback.
“I actually prefer your version to Nicole’s,” he said, while Nicole agreed, “So do I.”
The performance was a risk that paid off for Niall as he made it through to Judges’ Houses.
