Alan Hughes was NEVER told by 'cut-throat' TV3 he'd lost the Toy Show – and had to find out in the papers

Alan Hughes has revealed he only discovered he lost his job presenting the TV3 Toy Show when reading the newspapers.

The Ireland AM presenter admitted he is devastated to not be fronting his “baby” on Friday, after fronting the Late Late Toy Show rival last year.

The 43-year-old was replaced by Brian McFadden and Karen Koster, at the decision of the sponsors – which “cut-throat” TV3 never personally told him.

“I think my annoyance was that I ready about it in the paper,” he said. “But you know what? It’s such a cut-throat business, it really is.

“You’d think because TV3 is so closely knit that something like that wouldn’t happen to you but, on the other hand, there’s always a bigger agenda in these cases.”

The Ballymount star added that he was the one who said “we should be doing this primetime” after he “developed [it] over the years].

And Alan told RSVP Magazine that he feels Xpose’s Karen Koster has been added to the mix because ex-Westlife star Brian has never done enough live TV.

“The show is an hour-and-a-half live and Brian McFadden, I don’t think, has ever done live TV in that respect,” he said.

“So I think they might have drafted Karen in because she’s so used to doing live TV with Xpose.”
