EXCLUSIVE! Helen Steele discusses her #FashionIsRepealing dress from the Peter Mark VIP Style Awards

With less than a month to go before the referendum on the 8th amendment the conversation surrounding the subject has upped a gear.

The Peter Mark VIP Style Awards weren’t exempt from topic with designer Helen Steele sporting a political statement on the red carpet.

Nominated for the Ireland’s Favourite Designer Award, Steele saw the event as an opportunity to state her stance on the upcoming election in a dress she designed herself.

The black dress had coloured text all over it which read ‘fashion is repealing’, and is part of a collection of pieces that will be auctioned off to raise money for the campaign to repeal the 8th amendment.

She said, “I created this print for The Hunreal Issues to raise funds for the Yes vote.”

“Myself and 12 designers created some pieces inspired by the issue and the pieces will be auctioned off in the Atrium, Powerscourt shopping centre on May 10th.”

“We were commissioned by the powerhouse that is Andrea Horan.”

Steele joins a host of other Irish celebrities who stated their support for the repeal campaign this weekend including Indy Power, John and James Kavanagh.
