Dublin model Tia Duffy has revealed American stylists are much more “open-minded” with plus size models while only a handful of Irish stylists will even consider putting a plus size girl on the catwalk.

The curvy fashionista admitted she has reached out to many designers, but only a handful ever respond.

“You have more opportunity in New York. The stylists are more open minded,” she told Goss.ie

“In Ireland, there are only a handful of stylists who will actually put a plus size models on the catwalk. I’ve reached out to every stylist in Ireland and only got a handful of emails back.”

Tough world: Tia believes only a small number of Irish designers will put her in shows

“I’m going to keep on trying to promote healthy body image in fashion. I want to push that you don’t have to be a size 6 to model because I can make the clothes look just as good,” she added.

Goss.ie previously revealed that Vogue Magazine is working with Tia on creating a documentary on plus-size models in the fashion industry which the 26-year-old hopes will launch her career to the next level.

“Jenny McQuaile is a documentarian in New York, we put together the idea of a plus size documentary but at the time plus size hadn’t really expanded yet,” she revealed.

“This year we said we were just gonna take it and go with it and then Vogue happened to get back to me and said they were interested and they wanted to go ahead of it.

“They’re going to be covering every move we make in New York City. It’s absolutely amazing.”

Tia also revealed she will be pitching the documentary for release both in Ireland and the US for maximum exposure.

“We’re going over in April. I had plans to go over anywhere to further my career but this is just going to launch it to a whole other level. It will happen over a few months,” she told Goss.ie

“We’re pitching it in Ireland we’re going to do a contrast of plus size models in Ireland and New York and then we’re going to do a different pitch in America because obviously it’s a different audience,” she added.
