Question from a bride:

I’m getting married in six months’ time, and I would love to do a full laser hair removal treatment on my bikini line, legs, arms and face. Is now the right time to start with the
wedding being in six months?

Or should I wait closer to the time. Also how much can it cost or does it depend?

Anna:

Whenever you decide to start Laser Hair Removal is a good time!

It’s very important to understand the hair growth cycle and why you require a course of treatments. Your hairs consist of three distinct stages, Anagin (growing phase), Catogen (resting phase), and Telogen (shedding stage).

To achieve permanent results, the hairs must be in the growing stage for the energy to reach the hair root. Again we know from research, approximately 15% of anagin hairs are in the growing stage at the time of treatment therefore we can achieve 90% reduction after a course of six treatments.

That is the reason you will require a course of 6 sessions at 6-8 week intervals to achieve you permanent desired results. My advice would be to book your Free Consultation and Patch Test to get started with your laser treatments so that you can fit in 3-4 treatments sessions before your wedding.

Even having a few treatments, you will see a substantial reduction before your wedding and continue your course of Laser treatments after your wedding.

Question from a worried reader:

Hi Anna,

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I’ve always wanted to get laser hair removal done, especially on my legs. But I’m worried about having a reaction to the treatment. Does it only suit certain skin types? And how many sessions would you need on legs for the full affect?

Grace.

Anna:

Laser Hair Removal has long been a fantastic treatment to permanently remove unwanted hair from any part of your body and legs being a very popular area!

Before you make your decision there are a few important considerations to be aware of which I will answer for you to help you make your mind up.

Firstly, are you a suitable candidate for Laser Hair Removal? The ideal candidate is that you have some colour (pigment) present in your hairs and your skin colour is fair but that is not to say we  cannot treat darker skin types with specialized Yag lasers.

Secondly which Laser is suited to your skin type? Exclusively at The Laser and Skin Clinics we provide two types of FDA approved Cynosure Medical Grade Lasers for Hair removal, the gold standard wavelength is the Elite Alexandrite Laser 755nm for fairer skin types and Cynosure Elite Yag 1064nm wavelength Laser for darker skin types to ensure you achieve safe results.

We provide a Free Consultation and Patch Test on the area you want to treat to check your suitability and access your hair and skins reaction to laser energy.

It’s also an opportunity for you to experience the sensation of the Laser on your skin so you are happy to proceed with your treatment.

Based on research and our experience over the last 13 years providing Laser Hair Removal it is recommended to have 6 sessions at 6-8 week intervals to achieve up to 90% permanent Hair Removal!
