The X Factor returns to the LOWEST ratings since series one

The X Factor returned to our screens over the weekend, but a lot less people tuned in than expected.

According to the Telegraph, just 6.2 million viewers tuned into Saturday night’s first episode, making it the lowest-rated series opener since the show’s very first series back in 2004.

However, 6.5 million viewers tuned in to Sunday night’s episode, and both episodes made The X Factor the most-watched shows on British television over the weekend.

The ratings revelation is worrying for ITV bosses, as the show has been slammed for not creating new (and successful) pop stars in recent years.

Speaking last week, Simon revealed that he was introducing minor changes to the show’s format in a bid to boost ratings.

“If you just make the same show each year it becomes boring and predictable, so you try and make changes for the better,” he said.

“Not everything works but some ideas we’ve got for the live shows are going to be good.”
