Why Nicola Coughlan decided not to bring her family to the SAG Awards

Nicola Coughlan has revealed the reason why she decided not to bring her family with her to the 2025 SAG Awards.

The awards show took place at the Shrine Auditorium Expo Hall in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

Speaking with Sasheer Zamata, who was one of the red carpet hosts for the Netflix pre-show, the Bridgerton star humbly revealed why she decided not to bring anyone along.

“I’m one of those really annoying people that I’m like, ‘No speech.’ The thing is, I’m so sure that I’m not going to win that my family aren’t here,” shared the actress.

Nicola was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series at the SAG Awards, which was awarded to Anna Sawai for her role in Shōgun.

“I haven’t brought any one, I’ve not brought any loved ones. I’m like, ‘I’m not gonna win.’ So I feel like I can just chill for the night,” also said the Irish actress.

Nicola went on the explain that she thought she was getting “cancelled” when she heard the news that she’d been nominated for the award.

“It was crazy. I was in my kitchen, my phone was charging on the side, and it was passed to me, and I picked up, and my publicist went, ‘Has anyone spoken to you?'”

“And I went, ‘No, why? What?’ I was like, ‘They found out about all those crimes I did, I’ve been cancelled,'” joked the 38-year-old.

“I was like, ‘What’s happening?’ And she goes ‘You got nominated for a SAG Award.’ I went, ‘What?’ That just… it was not on my radar at all,” she told Sasheer.

Additionally, the Bridgerton cast were nominated for Best Ensemble in a Drama Series, which was won by Shōgun.

“And then for the cast to get an ensemble nomination, because it’s other actors voting, it means so much. It’s like, wow you think we’re good at our jobs,” said Nicola.
