Vincent Browne takes a pop at Ivan Yates

Vincent Browne has taken a pop at the possibility of Ivan Yates replacing him.

Ivan announced that he was returning to Newstalk this week and is reportedly taking up a new politics slot on TV3.

The former Weekend AM star admitted that he would “absolutely” be interested in taking over from Vincent.

“I would be interested in any job [TV3 managing director] Pat Kiely would suggest. Including that,” he said.

“I did it during the election. Vincent was sick at the time. But my understanding is Vincent is not stepping down.”

Vincent responded to his comments and said that he doesn’t see Ivan taking his position.

“I would have no involvement in who replaces me,” he told the Irish Sun.

“But the person who sits in for me and rates the best, by far better than Ivan Yates or Tom McGurk is Mick Clifford.

“The ratings are far better for Mick Clifford than anyone else. [Ivan] will have a while to wait. My contract is until September 30 2018.”

Following Vincent’s comments, Ivan spoke out and revealed that he has no hard feelings having developed a “thick skin in two decades of politics” and stressed he’s focusing on Newstalk – but a slot on TV3 may be on the cards.

“I’ve worked with TV3 before and aspire to do so again in whatever capacity would be helpful.

“Obviously my main interest are politics and business, and self-deprecating humour,” he added.
