Twink announces the death of her beloved pet: ‘We are heartbroken’

Twink has announced the death of her beloved dog.

The Panto queen, who’s real name is Adele King, adopted her pooch Rita over ten years ago from Dunboyne pound.

Taking to Facebook to share the sad news, the 70-year-old wrote: “We are heartbroken. Last night we had to say goodbye to our beloved little Muttie Rita Kelly.”

“It was Lisa Kelly who from the USA saw her pathetic little face on their website. I said No No No I can’t take in another mutt but of course I had to go out just to, eh, see her.”

“Love at first sight. A week later she was ours,” she recalled.

Twink revealed her dog had to have several operations for cancer, and she was recently diagnosed with diabetes.

The Dublin native explained that Rita went blind two weeks ago and that her health started to deteriorate “rapidly”.

Twink took her dog to the vet, but she was “too frail” and “too ill” to undergo another operation or make a full recovery.

She wrote: “By 10.00 last night, although she wasn’t in a distressed way, it was cruel to ask her to exist another moment like this. She was just trying to milk the last few hours out of what had been a wonderful life overall.”

“At 11.30, half an hour before she was due her insulin shot, she left us peacefully with the three of us and Teddy and Timby around her telling her how much we have loved and always will love her. No more shots pills or pain or darkness Rita.”

Thanking the vets who took care of Rita, Twink added: “God bless all three of you for giving her such a good quality of life in her final months, weeks, days and moments before the end. We love and admire you all!”
