TV3’s Celebrity Masterchef suffers ratings flop

TV3’s Celebrity Masterchef suffered a ratings flop as their first episode aired last Monday.

According to the Irish Sun –  104,000 tuned into the premiere episode, which doesn’t spell good things for sponsors who invested money in the show’s success.

“There’ll be panic. TV3 would have sold the show to sponsors, promising a bigger audience. That’s not happening,” a source said.

TV insiders are blaming low ratings on the show’s start time of 10pm, as well as the show’s new judges, chefs Daniel Clifford and Robin Gill.

Ratings flop: The first episode – which saw Holly Carpenter eliminated – suffered in the ratings race | TV3

“Nobody has a clue who the judges are. There are lots of cooking shows on Irish TV now with better-known faces like Nevin Maguire and Donal Skehan,” an insider said.

According to a TV3 source, ShinAwil productions arrived at TV3 yesterday for crisis talks.

“It’s a good show. The problem is unless it’s exceptional, people will switch off and watch Netflix. They might also go to bed at 10pm on a Sunday as it’s the end of the weekend,” they said.

The first episode of the show saw former Miss Ireland Holly Carpenter eliminated, after her malteaser cheesecake failed to impress.
