TV3 have responded to reports this week that Mark Cagney is reportedly set to retire from Ireland AM next year.

The broadcaster has hosted the show since it first launched back in 1999, but a source told the Irish Mail on Sunday that Mark was ready to say goodbye to the show in 2019.

However, a TV3 source has since told the Irish Mirror that the 61-year-old has no plans to leave the show.

“Mark loves his job, it’s a non-story. He won’t leave, he has a family to support and adores being on air, it’s the first we’ve heard of this,” the source said.

Over two decades, Mark has hosted the show alongside the likes of Alan Hughes, Grainne Seoige, Amanda Byram, and Sinead Desmond.

The news comes after Sinead Desmond announced her departure from the show back in November over an alleged pay dispute.

Since Sinead’s departure, Ciara Doherty has been filling in as the show’s female anchor, and it’s believe she’ll become a permanent fixture on the show.
