A television advertisement for a women’s razor sparked a hilarious debate on RTÉ’s Liveline this week.
The ad in question, for Gillette Venus razors, captures a woman using the razor to shave the top of her underwear line, and along the top of her inner leg.
The video has caused uproar with some outraged RTÉ viewers, who have expressed their distaste for the ad on Liveline with Joe Duffy, branding it the “the epitome of vulgarity.”

In a video posted to RTÉ Radio 1’s Instagram account, Joe Duffy can be seen reacting to the debate between two listeners over the advertisement.
One viewer argued: “To put the camera at an angle where it’s at the top of the lady’s underwear and it was shown the pubic hair.”
“I mean There’s no need for this. What’s it going to do next? Take off her underwear pieces and just let us see what she’s doing.”
Another argued: “I found nothing offensive in that ad. Would you find it offensive seeing a man shave his chest or shave his face in front of a mirror half naked?”
The other listener hit back: “There is no comparison whatsoever between a man shaving his face and a female shaving her private parts.”
However, the second listener commented: “She was not shaving her private parts, she shaved the top of her inner leg. She had pants on, there was no pubic hair showing whatsoever.”
The first listener claimed the advertisement was the “epitome of vulgarity” and asked Joe to ask his employer RTÉ to take the “indecent ads off the screen.”
They continued that they would be all for the product if the advertisement was done “more tastefully,” and “not at an angle going at the top of the ladies underwear.”

The second viewer scoffed at this, claiming “the angle doesn’t show anything, just the lady in the underwear.”
Listeners in the comments couldn’t help but laugh at the exchange, including TV presenter Maia Dunphy who commented, “This was the best hour of radio I’ve heard in a long time!! 😂😂😂”
RTÉ 2FM host Carl Mullan also wrote: “😂😂😂😂 my favourite video since the Normal People segment a few years back.”
The presenter was referring to a viral Liveline debate that occurred in 2020, after viewers of the show Normal People described the show as “being like a porno.”
