Tributes pour in as Irish filmmaker Simon Fitzmaurice has died

Irish film director Simon Fitzmaurice has sadly passed away.

The critically-acclaimed director and author was diagnosed with motor neuron disease back in 2008, and was initially given just four years to live.

Simon wrote bestselling book It’s Not Yet Dark, which described his battle with motor neuron disease – and was adapted into a film this year.

The film was directed by Frankie Fenton and narrated by Colin Farrell.

He also directed the 2015 film My Name Is Emily, which was nominated for eight IFTA awards.

According to The Irish Times, Simon is survived by his wife Ruth and five children.

Since the news broke, tributes have been pouring in on social media.
