Rugby star Tommy Bowe has told how he was shocked by the reaction to his engagement.
The Ireland star proposed to ex-Miss Wales Lucy Whitehouse in April, which left thousands of fans devastated.
But Tommy said: “I think we were both a bit taken back by it. It was announced and went on social media and the pictures came out and it became very public.
“We were both blown away by the response to it. You walk down the street and people are congratulating you and you don’t know who they are. You nearly feel like inviting them to the wedding.”

Now the Ulster player has managed to convince Lucy to come and live in Belfast with him.
“We are both very happy. Lucy has moved over to Belfast now and I think she is enjoying it,” he said.
“Hopefully it will all go well and we’ll get married sometime in the future.
“We are both quite laid back with it. We’re not getting too carried away at the minute but we are enjoying it.”

And Tommy told Saturday Night With Miriam he has linked up with Lloyd & Pryce for a shoe collection as he looks to life after rugby.
“When it started, I wouldn’t exactly call myself much of a fashionista but I thought it was something different and I enjoyed a bit of challenge,” he said.
“Playing rugby, you get locked in a bit of a bubble. And with the clothing label, which is called Fifteen Kings, I’ve tried to push it.

“I have just hit 30 years old unfortunately… It hits home you have to prepare. That’s why I was getting involved with the guys, Lloyd And Pryce and Fifteen Kings, and getting an understanding of business and getting to see how the real world works.
“It’s a short career span and it’s about making as much of it as you can. If you get to early-to-mid 30s, unfortunately that’s when the real life comes and that’s the scary bit.”
