Today FM stars celebrate another boost in listeners in latest JNLR figures

Broadcasters at Today FM have a lot to celebrate today, as they recorded a boost in listeners across the board in the latest JNLR figures.

The Joint National Listenership Report for the period May – December 2021 was released on Wednesday, and Today FM registered its biggest weekly audience in more than 10 years.

There are now 929,000 people tuning into Today FM every week (+52,000 YoY) and 453,000 each day (+38,000 YoY), maintaining its pole position as the most listened to station in Ireland on a daily basis for 20-44 year olds.

Dermot & Dave, who won Best Radio Show at The Gossies 2021, saw their listenership increase to 208,000 (+3,000 BoB), cementing their status as the biggest show on commercial radio in Ireland.

The nation’s favourite Breakfast presenter, Ian Dempsey, is also celebrating good news after increasing his breakfast show audience to 184,000 (+6,000 BoB).

The Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show now starts an hour earlier, broadcasting on Today FM from 6am – 9am every weekday morning.

Leaving Today FM on a high, Mairead Ronan handed over an audience of 143,000 (+11,000 BoB) to new lunchtime host Pamela Joyce.

Pamela took over Mairead’s 12pm – 2pm slot in recent weeks, and has received rave reviews for her irreverent style and audience interaction.

In the afternoon time slot of 2pm – 4.30pm, Fergal D’Arcy leaves the station with an audience of 134,000.

Ray Foley is taking over this time slot next week, launching his new show on Monday, February 14th.

In the ever-competitive drive time slot, The Last Word with Matt Cooper (4.30pm – 7pm) had another hugely impressive JNLR performance, this time smashing a 10 year record to reach an audience of 173,000 (+3,000 BoB).

Commenting on the latest results, Matt Cooper said: “We’re thrilled to have our largest audience in a decade. It seems we’re hitting the right note with our content on The Last Word, a smorgasbord that delivers the right taste for our listeners!”
