The Cranberries react to Miley Cyrus’ performance of their hit track Zombie

The Cranberries have reacted to Miley Cyrus’ performance of their hit track Zombie.

The song was originally released by the Irish band in 1994, written by the late Dolores O’Riordan, and climbed to the top of the charts internationally.

On Saturday, Miley covered the track at the Save Our Stages festival to raise funds for music venues affected by the coronavirus pandemic, with fans blown away by her performance.

Taking to Twitter on Monday, The Cranberries praised Miley for the “one of the finest covers” of the song, admitting that Dolores would be “very impressed”.

The band wrote: “We were delighted to hear of Miley Cyrus’ cover of Zombie at the Whisky a Go Go #SOSFEST in LA at the weekend.

“It’s one of the finest covers of the song that we’ve heard. We think Dolores would be very impressed!”

Dolores died tragically in January 2018, after she accidentally drowned in a hotel bath due to alcohol intoxication.

The singer was much-loved all around the world, with her bandmates releasing a moving statement at the time of her death.

They wrote: “We are devastated on the passing of our friend Dolores. She was an extraordinary talent and we feel very privileged to have been part of her life from 1989 when we started the Cranberries.

“The world has lost a true artist today,” the band said, signing the post “Noel, Mike and Fergal”.
