Sydney Rose Brianna Parkins responds to overwhelming support after being harassed in Kilkenny pub

Sydney Rose, Brianna Parkins has responded to the overwhelming support she received after being harassed in a Kilkenny bar.

The 2016 Rose of Tralee competitor shared her disturbing experience on Twitter and revealed that she had to fight off a drunken man who put her in a headlock and tried to kiss her at a bar in Kilkenny.

Since Brianna opened up about the harassment, she has received huge support with many of her followers agreeing that there needs to be a change in how women are treated on nights out.

The 28-year-old took to Twitter to express her appreciation and wrote: “I didn’t expect what started as a little internet rant to go this far. I think it’s because so many women knew exactly what I was talking about and sympathetic blokes understood. Thanks for validating. Here’s a sign from my local in Sydney x.”

Following her rant going viral, Brianna spoke on The Ryan Tubridy Show yesterday morning and claimed that the bar’s bouncer didn’t help her.

“But what I didn’t expect was, I reacted like a normal person, grabbed him by the back of the head, reefed him off me and my friend, gave a few solid good shoves for good measure and he kept coming back at us.”

“I just had to keep responding more and more aggressively and everyone in the bar turned to look at me as if I am the person causing the problem, but this bloke had a good 30kg on me – physically, we weren’t evenly matched.

“No one helped, his mates didn’t help, they thought it was funny and the bouncer looked at us like they were going to almost consider kicking me out.”
