Sinéad O’Connor retracts her retirement announcement after ‘astonishing support’

Sinéad O’Connor has retracted her retirement announcement.

Last week, the 54-year-old revealed her upcoming album No Veteran Dies Alone (NVDA) would be her last release.

Taking to Twitter on Monday night, the singer wrote: “F*** retiring. I retract. Am not retiring.”

Sinéad said her retirement announcement was “a knee-jerk reaction” and that as a result of “the astonishing support” she received following the announcement, she was now retracting it.

“I felt like I did thirty years ago and for thirty years. That I’d be better off (safer) if I ran away and gave up being in music at all.”

“I feel safe in retracting my expressed wish to retire and I will in fact be doing shows all currently booked for 2022,” she said.

The songstress apologised to “all the fans, buyers, promoters, venues and hot dog sellers” that she frightened with her announcement, adding: “To be honest, I gave myself a fright too.”
