“It’s not something that occupies my thoughts at all. In a way it was a great thing to happen as it makes me more grateful for everything I have.

“I’m thankful I got an early diagnosis and went through the procedure relatively unscathed,” she told the Irish Sun.

The Galway native added that she views the whole experience as positive now.

“I don’t think anything negative about it. All it brought me is positive — people who’ve been through serious illnesses will understand that.

“I can appreciate life now. It’s the kind of thing you don’t think will ever happen to you, so it’s a wake-up call when it does,” she explained.

“I take things in now and it’s like looking through a different set of eyes.”
