Sharon Ní Bheoláin makes formal complaint against RTÉ News boss

Sharon Ní Bheoláin has made a formal complain against her former RTÉ News boss.

The former Six One News presenter was moved to the nine o’clock news slot earlier this year and reportedly had a heated argument with the head of news and current affairs, Jon Williams, on the night of Theresa May’s no-confidence vote.

Sharon has not returned to her nine o’clock slot since the alleged argument, as sources claimed she refused to present the news hours before she was due on-air.

The argument was allegedly sparked with the 47-year-old objected to Six One New’s presenter, Caitríona Perry, co-hosting the nine o’clock news slot from Westminster during the vote.

Since leaving her regular slot, Sharon told the Mail on Sunday: “Arising out of events last week (Wednesday, December 12), I initiated a formal grievance procedure with RTÉ.”

“Until the matter is dealt with through the appropriate channels, it would be very unwise for me to comment.”

“Sharon got an email from Jon saying, because she’d indicated she was not going to do her job,” a source claimed.

“Basically he was going to get another presenter in. So Caitríona presented the bulletin from Westminster, and Eileen Whelan presented from Dublin. He stood her down.”

While Sharon has not presented her regular news slot during the week, the 47-year-old has hosted Crimecall and Leaders’ Questions earlier in the week.

The news comes just one day after it was confirmed that Martina Fitzgerald, was leaving RTÉ after she was replaced as political correspondent.
