Sharon Horgan has teased a “new season” of the series Motherland two years after the show was axed.
The BBC comedy lasted three seasons, including two Christmas specials, and concluded in December 2022.
The series chronicled the highs and lows of contemporary middle-class parenthood.
However, earlier this year, it was revealed that Joanna Lumley and Philippa Dunne would be appearing in a spin-off centred on Lucy Punch’s character, the snobbish and recently divorced Amanda.
Sharon gave insight into the actress and teased a return of the series when speaking about working with Joanna.
Speaking to Jessie and Lennie Ware on the Table Manners podcast, Sharon said: “Joanna is the best. She’s just so, so beautiful.”
“She plays Amanda’s mum — so it’s her, Amanda and Anne and then this whole new cast. I’m so excited for people to see it.”
Speaking about Motherland, Sharon continued: “I’m not in the season, but maybe if we do another season because it’s so much fun. We’ve jumped on a few years so now it’s [about having] teenagers.”
In February, Diane Morgan, a leading lady in the show, confessed the hugely popular show would not be returning.
The actress told RadioTimes: “I hate to say it because I still get women running up to me with prams in the street asking me when it’s coming back.”
Sharon Horgan is currently busy with the release of the second season of Bad sisters.
Last month, the highly anticipated second season dropped two episodes on Apple TV.
The second season, which consists of eight episodes, brings creator and star Sharon Horgan back together with Anne-Marie Duff, Eva Birthistle, Sarah Greene, and Eve Hewson.
Season two’s first two episodes will be accessible on November 13; subsequent episodes will air every Wednesday until Christmas Day.
Teeing up what’s ahead, Apple TV+ said: “Bad Sisters, season two returns to follow the lives of the Garvey sisters, played by Sharon Horgan as Eva, Anne-Marie Duff as Grace, Eva Birthistle as Ursula, Sarah Greene as Bibi, and Eve Hewson as Becka.”
“Two years after the accidental death of Grace’s abusive husband, the close-knit Garvey sisters may have moved on, but when past truths resurface, the ladies are thrust back into the spotlight, suspicions are at an all-time high, lies are told, secrets revealed, and the sisters are forced to work out who they can trust.”
